This is the version I have been eating for breakfast almost every day since last month. I’m going to share with you this 3-ingredient recipe that takes only 5 minutes and three ingredients!
Avocado Toast: Origin and History
But we don’t claim that we invented it! But, who did do?
The origin of avocado toast is debated. However, both a Sydney restaurant owner and a New York City chef claim credit. Bill Granger, a Sydney restaurant owner, claims that it was featured on his menu as early as 1993. Chloe Osborne says she tried it in Australia back in 1970 before bringing it to Manhattan in 2006.
Although it’s possible that neither one of them invented the idea, it is still possible. Avocado on toast has been mentioned in magazine and newspaper articles dating back to the 1920s. It’s also a popular combination in Chile and Peru since the 1800s.
The avocado toast was a huge internet hit in 2008, and since then, we have never looked back. We thank everyone who helped bring avocado toast closer to our home.
Avocado Toast
Here’s how it works. Toast bread, add avocado, smash. SO FUNS.
Top with my vegan Parmesan cheese, and sprinkle on some red pepper flake. This combination is incredibly delicious. This is a simple but perfect recipe. Trust!
The avocado is buttery, the parm is slightly salty, and the pepper flake is spicy. Major swoon.
How to Keep Avocados Fresh
You become obsessed with keeping avocados fresh when you eat avocado toast every day. This is the tried-and-true method I use to keep avocados perfectly ripe for up to 4 days!
- Step 1: Purchase when the fruit is nearly ripe.
- Step 2: Once ripened (soft to the touch- do not squeeze too hard), place it in the refrigerator OR slice it and use it right away.
- Step 3: Place leftovers in plastic bags (or containers with a seal) while keeping the pit intact.
- Step 4: Remove any brown edges from the product before using.
Best gluten-free breads
This recipe is a great one to share because it contains some of my favorite tips for gluten-free breads.
Two of my favorite gluten-free products are Little Northern Bakehouse 7 Grain and a Portland-based brand called New Cascadia. Both are dairy- and egg-free!
